UNM Office & Light Lab

Albuquerque, NM

FBT Architects designed this 73,800 sf research and office facility on the University of New Mexico’s Research Park to support private research companies in a combination office/lab environment.

Anchoring the entrance to the Research Park, the two and three story building contains office space, high and low-bay laboratory spaces, conference facilities and an employee lounge. All common areas, including the circular Multi-Purpose Room are located at the east end of the building to maximize views of the Sandia Mountains. The light-filled circular entry lobby on the west connects to the research park through a large circular pedestrian plaza. The design of the 400-car parking structure is sited to the west and takes advantage of the sloped site with panoramic views of the mesa to the west.

The Vision

The architectural character of the building blends traditional and contemporary styles – a reflection of the traditional forms and materials associated with the Pueblo Style of architecture on UNM’s main campus and articulated steel and glass associated with the research environment.
