Sarracino Middle School

Socorro, NM

FBT is working with Socorro Consolidated School District to replace the existing, aging facility with a 39,485 sf modern, right-sized middle school. Sarracino Middle School presented many challenges including a tight site, building adjacencies and site circulation for drop-off and buses. Another key challenge was downsizing the facility without compromising programmatic needs. The design team carefully led the District through multiple options consolidating or combining programs to gain consensus.

A two story building scheme maximizes the site while minimizing the overall building footprint. A new, shared bus drop-off for the middle and high was separated from all parent drop-off traffic. Our team developed creative solutions to maximize the client’s budget. For example, we renovated the high school cafeteria and kitchen to best serve all students on campus instead of constructing a brand new cafeteria for the middle school. This resulted in maximum space efficiencies and better use of funds.
