A New Pre-K Campus Takes Shape in Raton
The new Raton Combined School will bring the district’s PreK–12 students together on one thoughtfully connected campus. Designed for 824 students, the two-story, 133,379 sf school responds to its sloping site with two north-south wings that open toward views of the surrounding mesas.
The middle and high school wing will be built first, allowing the existing high school to remain fully operational during construction. Once complete, the original school will be removed to make way for the elementary wing. Separate gyms, dining areas and administration spaces create distinct environments for younger and older students, while shared spaces bring the school community together. At the heart of each wing, a two-story collaboration hub will provide a light-filled place for learning, technology and connection. Flexible classrooms, career and technical education spaces and strong connections to outdoor plazas and play areas will support learning in many forms.
Brick and colorful metal panels give the school a contemporary identity while reflecting Raton’s rich railroad history and northern New Mexico setting.
