Laguna Acoma High Track and Field Improvements

Casa Blanca, NM

This project included a complete track and field replacement with a new synthetic turf field, resilient surface track and targeted site grading. Drainage improvements were made to address significant erosion and campus drainage issues including damage on the existing track due to water flow and sedimentation. The existing natural turf field was dangerous for players as sand/silt buildup had created a steep crown and grass cover was bare. To address the larger problems caused by drainage onto the track/field area, Groundwork Studio coordinated with a civil engineer to perform field investigation and hydrological analysis of the adjacent arroyo in developing comprehensive site drainage solutions.

The track areas also included new long jump, high jump, and pole vault facilities, as well as custom field striping and logo installation. Groundwork Studio prepared performance specifications for both the track and field surfaces to ensure a high quality product with competitive bid pricing. Project costs were controlled by preserving elements of the existing field drainage system and exterior curbing and fencing.
