UNM McKinnon Center for Management at Anderson School

Albuquerque, NM

FBT Architects teamed with BORA Architects out of Portland, OR to design this 60,727 sf signature building–the new front door of the business school. This building is designed to transition Anderson students seamlessly into the professional world. The layout of classrooms and shared spaces encourage networking and facilitate interactions between faculty, staff and students along with community and campus partners. The McKinnon Center for Management bridges the academic and business communities to embody the Anderson School mission: New Mexico Business Lives Here.

The McKinnon Center for Management is the first phase of the expansion and replacement of the existing Anderson School of Management building. When all phases are completed, the school will have flexible facilities designed to meet the school’s projected instructional, administrative and enrollment needs for decades to come. Sustainable design principles were implemented to create a building that is energy efficient, easily maintained, healthy and flexible. Certified LEED Gold.

Recognized as one of the 50 Most Beautiful Business Schools, the McKinnon Center for Management positions UNM’s Anderson School as an innovative and compelling environment for students to do their best work. Natural lighting and expansive views connect students and faculty with open sky and mountain vistas while creating a sense of place and connectivity within the surrounding campus.

The McKinnon Center for Management has already been transformative. The abundance of light, the open areas for people to study, rest, socialize and meet has inspired many. The spaces inside and outside draw people to the building and the living room captures the imaginations of students and they spend hours in that area studying and meeting with others. The opens up important intersections of communication and is very interesting to be in.
