Jicarilla-Apache Wellness Center – Eagle Award of Excellence
The Jicarilla-Apache Community Wellness Center is a new 100,000 sf replacement facility for the Jicarilla Apache Nation focused on creating healthy spaces – inside and out – and a civic center for the community. The design is organized along a central circulation concourse that functionally connects all major spaces and creates a multi-use exhibition and gathering space for the community. The new center responds to the cultural context of the Jicarilla Apache Nation by promoting a circular entry element with an east-facing entrance.
UNM Johnson Center Renovation & Expansion – Eagle Award of Excellence
FBT Architects partnered with Hastings+Chivetta to transform the University of New Mexico’s outdated Johnson Center Recreation facility into a 21st-century student-focused hub of campus activity and health. Originally built in 1957, numerous additions had created a complex wayfinding and circulation challenge, with visitors often getting lost in the maze of hallways. A new east-west concourse simplified the problem unifying previously separated areas and creating a new entry and pre-event gathering space.
CNM Marketplace – Award of Merit
Envisioned as a new-concept Marketplace and hangout for CNM students and the neighboring community, this new 3-story, 16,502 sf building offers essential student amenities, retail and inviting spaces for social interaction. Shared student and community spaces include a Starbucks café on the ground level and a common area on the third floor. The translucent polycarbonate panel system creates a glowing beacon in the evenings and floods the retail spaces with natural light during the day.
