Safety scissors replaced the usual giant pair of scissors at the ribbon cutting Monday for two new schools in Farmington.
Northeast Elementary and Hermosa Middle School were built right across the street from each other with just more than $19 million apiece of funding from Farmington Municipal Schools and the state.
The schools will be state-of-the-art, including LED lights that could outlast the school building, and heightened security measures.
“There will be no access into the school without a tightly-controlled administrated entry card out front,” said Ted Lasiewicz, with Farmington Municipal Schools.
It’s a dream come true for students and teachers, according to Lasiewicz.
“I can’t tell you how excited the teachers are. Students, I think they pinch themselves every day because of the new facilities,” he said.
