CNM Community College Smith Brasher Hall
Originally built in 1982 as a classroom building and auditorium on Central New Mexico Community College’s main campus, the award-winning Smith Brasher Hall has hosted many departments and programs throughout its history. The project goal for this key anchor building was to consolidate the School of Business and Information Technology programs under one roof while creating a clear entry and identity for the northwest edge of campus.
With a focus on Business Administration, Accounting and Computer Information Systems, Smith Brasher Hall is designed to reflect the modern business world and support the state-of-the-art technologies used in a student-centered learning environment. Common spaces and an open-air market for entrepreneurial activities and events encourage interactions between faculty, students and community partners.
Design
The existing lecture hall was renovated to meet the needs of its current use as a community event, music performance and film-screening venue. Custom patterned wall panels were designed to refine acoustics throughout the auditorium’s interior. In addition to updated lighting and AV, the new design allowed for more flexible staging configurations to accommodate changing pedagogies and future technologies for the college of Business Information Technology (BIT).
As a LEED Gold project, the design incorporates many sustainable features including geothermal heating and cooling systems, LED lighting and control systems, creative water harvesting techniques and solar panels.
