UNMH Sandia Vista Primary Care Clinic

Albuquerque, NM

The UNMH Sandia Vista Primary Care Clinic defines the next generation of UNMH’s community healthcare model—an evolution of the original prototype clinics FBT Architects designed nearly a decade ago. Located at 98th Street and Gibson in Albuquerque’s rapidly growing Southwest area, the new facility expands access to integrated, community-based healthcare.

FBT completely reprogrammed the clinic from the inside out to align with UNMH’s updated operational goals and evidence-based design strategies. Drawing on a post-occupancy review of another clinic location, the design introduces onstage/offstage patient flow, collaborative team spaces and learner-focused environments that foster mentorship and real-time feedback.

The large greenfield site posed challenges, including limited access at a busy intersection. FBT coordinated closely with the City of Albuquerque through PWO and DRC reviews and continued that collaboration into the construction phase. Despite the site’s complexity, the team accelerated the schedule by following UNMH’s established standards and minimizing changes to the building footprint.

Through focused workshops, bi-weekly consultant coordination and real-time digital collaboration, the project team created a refined prototype that strengthens UNMH’s commitment to community-based, patient-centered, and education-integrated care delivery.
