John Nelson, AIA

Principal / Director of Hospitality & Interior Design

As the new Director of Hospitality and Interior Design for FBT Architects, John Nelson brings more than three decades of experience and a passion for creating elevated environments that inspire. Throughout his career, he has designed spaces from the inside out with a focus on managing volumes, adjacencies, materials, lighting and operational overlay that combine to enhance the overall user experience. He embraces every challenging project that comes his way, whether it be a renovation or new construction and is particularly passionate about Hospitality— with growing interest in adjacent fields like Luxury Multi-Family and Luxury Senior Living. With a degree in Environmental Design, John believes sustainability should have a more prominent role and works to champion more environmentally responsible design solutions.

Having lived in seven cities before the age of 13, John’s upbringing in a military family fueled his desire to travel and experience the world. When he’s not home in Dallas, John and his wife enjoy traveling whenever possible. With a discerning palate for wine and bourbon, an enthusiasm for fine dining and a love for racing, John brings both sophistication and spirited curiosity to FBT’s team of managing principals.
