Alcalde Elementary School

Española, NM

Alcalde Elementary is a new replacement K-6 school on a new site within a 200-acre Rio Arriba County Development. Designed with materials and elements typical of Northern New Mexico style, the school layout responds to the beautiful site location to maximizes views of the Truchas and Peñasco Mountains.

Previously housed in an all portable campus, the goal for the new elementary was to create a nurturing environment that embraced the multicultural community and provide maximum flexibility for anticipated future improvements and demands on the school.

Teaching classrooms in the new elementary were designed for the existing 200-student population while the capacity of the core increased to 400 students, allowing the district to consider future classroom additions. To address the potential increase in population, a larger multi-purpose room was designed, including an 800 sf seating area for school and community use.
